Glendale, approximately 9 miles northwest of downtown Phoenix, is a city in Maricopa County, Arizona. William John Murphy was the founder of Glendale. A story goes that before WWI, ostrich feathers were a big business in Glendale. The natural grass field lies on top of a 234 x 400 ft. movable tray that sits outside to get sunlight and rain, and on game days, the tray moves into the stadium. It takes about 45 minutes for the grass to come inside. The stadium was featured on the History Channel series Modern Marvels for its roll-out natural grass field. University of Phoenix Stadium hosted Super Bowl XLII and will host the 2015 Super Bowl XLIX. The stadium in Glendale also hosts other football games and events such as the annual Tostitos Fiesta Bowl.
Adjacent to the University of Phoenix Stadium is Jobing.com Arena. The arena is home of the Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) and location of an annual Street League Skateboarding event as well as many concerts and shows. Also next to the arena and stadium is the Westgaqte City Center: an entertainment district to shop, dine, and experience nightlife and entertainment events.
The City of Glendale owns and operates the Camelback Ranch-Glendale spring training complex and stadium in Phoenix, where the major-league baseball teams LA Dodgers and Chicago White Sox share a training camp.

Also, Glendale is known for the chocolate festival each February called the Glendale Chocolate Affaire, and in December, the city celebrates the holidays with a two-month huge holiday lights display and special events.
